LOVE HAS A NAME - JESUS

What the world needs now Is love, sweet love No, not just for some, But for everyone”
This popular song by Burt Bacharach and Hal David was released in 1965 during a time in our country when segregation, bigotry, prejudice, and hatred abounded. It was a time of great turmoil to be sure; but is it any different today?
Oh, today’s struggles may have different names, but the problem is still the same – we live in a sinful world, surrounded by sinful people, with the very deceptive and persistent enemy Satan prowling around looking to whom he may devour. But you know what, even though I’m not sure this is what the song had in mind, it IS right – the world does need love. But it’s not the love that is defined by the world. On the contrary - we need a more powerful love than anything this world can offer. We need a love that can overcome the depravities and sin of the world. We need a love that can overcome the power of Satan. We need a love that can even overcome death. That love has a name and this week’s readings literally shout it out – JESUS!!!

I am Jesus little lamb, ever glad at heart I am. For my Shepherd gently guides me, knows my needs and well provides me. LOVES me every day the same – even calls me by my name.
Lord, we need You to be our Shepherd and our Savior. Forgive us when we look anywhere else but to You for that living and enduring love. Turn our hearts, Lord Jesus, back to LOVE; turn our hearts, Lord Jesus, back to YOU!!!
