2nd Sunday in Epiphany - January 12th - 18th, 2009

Who would you say knows you better than anyone else – your mother, father, spouse, friend, sibling? Yet – do they really know you?

In this weeks readings God reveals how He knows us intimately (Psalm 139), redeems us by the blood of Jesus and makes us His own (1 Corinthians 6), calls us, even though we don’t always recognize His voice (1 Samuel 3:1-10), and invites us to “Come and see” Jesus (John 1:42-51). The Apostle Paul reminds us: “it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13). This week pray with Samuel “speak Lord your servant is listening” and ask God to work in you not only see Jesus, but to invite others “Come and See” Jesus.

My prayer for you comes from Ephesians 1:16-20: “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”
